ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every GCVFD member that responded to the calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone affected by the incidents.

2 House Runs To Hampshire County

On Sunday April 18th at 1800 Hrs The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the mutual assist to Hampshire County for the Mountain Fire. Brush 26 responded with a crew of 3. Engine Tanker 22 was alerted for the station transfer to Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Company (32) Engine Tanker 22 responded with a crew of 2. Brush 26 arrived and deployed 400' of 1" on to the 300' already in place to try and reach the bulk of the fire. Brush 26 was placed back in service at 2300hrs.

Engine Tanker Requested For The Transfer

On Saturday April 10th at 1850 Hrs The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the mutual assist to Company 32 (Paw Paw Fire) for the station transfer while Company 32 was on a brush fire in Hampshire County. Engine Tanker 22 responded with 2 at 1852 Hrs. Engine Tanker 22 returned to service at 2050 Hrs.

Tanker Runs Brush Fire Company 1's First Due

On Friday April 9th at 1636 Hrs The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the mutual assist to Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire) for the brush fire at Henry O Michael Road. Tanker 2 responded with 2 at 1638 Hrs. Tanker 2 arrived on scene at 1654hrs and supplied Tanker 12 with a load of water. Tanker 2 returned to service at 1725 Hrs.

Brush Fire Company 2's First Due

On Monday April 5th The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the brush fire at 154 Abel Lane off the 2400 block of Gamble Road. Brush 26,Tanker 2, Engine Tanker 22 all responded. Chief 2 established command. Chief 2 requested Engine Tanker 53 divert to Station 2 for the fill in. Also responding were Engine 15, Tanker 12 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Tanker 3-20 (South Morgan Fire), Tanker 32 (Paw Paw Fire), Engine Tanker 53 (Hancock MD Fire).

Another Busy Day At The 2 House

On Saturday April 3rd shortly while setting up for the Easter Egg Hunt one of our members noticed smoke coming from the Great Cacapon area. Engine 21 with responded with a crew to investigate. Engine 21 crew advised dispatch they located a controlled burn the homeowners were advised of the burn laws. Engine 21 returned to service.
The second call of the day The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire) with a brush fire. Brush 26 responded with a crew of 2 and was later put in service.
The third call of the day came while the demo fire apparatus which had arrived at station 2 was being displayed and we were discussing it with the dealer for approx 10 mins. The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a single vehicle accident with entrapment in the water on Pumphouse Road of Cacapon Road. Rescue Engine 2 responded with a crew of 4 and the Captain (Matt Grimley) followed by BLS 2. Rescue Engine 2 arrived to find the vehicle over the embankment in the water with all occupants out of the vehicle. Rescue Engine 2's crew began patient care and Captain 2 took command. Trooper 5 was requested by Medic 74 (Morgan County Rescue Squad) again alerting Company 2's 2nd engine also alerting Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire) for an engine. Engine Tanker 22 responded with a crew of 2 to the LZ the baseball field on Spring Street. Engine 12 (Berkeley Springs Fire) also responded to assist.

Busy Day For The 2 House

| On Friday April 2nd at 1126 Hrs the day began with the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company being alerted for the mutual assist to Berkeley Springs Fire (Company 1) for the barn fire in the 5000 block of Pious Ridge Road. Also dispatched on the box were Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Company 3 (South Morgan Fire), and Company 5 (Hancock, MD Fire). Tanker 2 responded at 1131 Hrs with a crew of 2. While enroute Chief 1 advised of heavy smoke showing from the area of Route 522. Engine 53 (Hancock Fire) arrived on the scene and advised of a fully involved barn fire on the ground with extension to 2 tractors and a small building. Tanker 2 arrived on the scene at 1151 Hrs and supplied 1 load of water to Engine 53 then returned to service at 1241 Hrs. Other units on the alarm were Engine 11, Engine 15, Tanker 12, Squad 1(Berkeley Springs Fire), Tanker 320 (South Morgan Fire), Engine 51, Engine 53 (Hancock Fire).

| On Friday April 2nd shortly after returning from the barn fire the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was again alerted for the mutual assist to Paw Paw Fire (Company 32) for the station transfer while they were on a structure & brush fire in Hampshire County. Engine Tanker 22 with responded with a crew of 2. Engine Tanker 22 was later alerted for a brush fire at 18700 Cacapon Road. Engine Tanker 22 responded and advised dispatch to start a brush unit out of company 2 to assist. Brush 26 with a crew of 2 responded. Tanker 32 also responded from the fire in Hampshire county. Engine Tanker 22 arrived on the scene to find a half acre involved fire was knocked down quickly and units returned to service.

Company 2 Alerted For The Mutual Structure Fire

| On March 31st at 0317 Hrs the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the mutual assist to Berkeley Springs Fire (Company 1) for the Residential Structure fire on Herdon Drive. Also dispatched on the box were Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Company 3 (South Morgan Fire), and Company 5 (Hancock, MD Fire). Tanker 22 responded with a crew of 2. Medic 74 (Morgan County Rescue) arrived on the scene and advised of a working fire with everyone out. Tanker 22 supplied Engine 15 with water and 22's manpower assisted with the knock down. Other units on the alarm were Engine 15(Berkeley Springs Fire), Tanker 320 (South Morgan Fire), Engine 53 (Hancock Fire), Medic 7-4 (Morgan County Rescue Squad), Morgan County Sheriff's Office.

Company 2 Alerted For The Mutual Barn

| On March 24th the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the mutual assist to Berkeley Springs Fire (Company 1) for the barn fire Cold Run Valley Road. Also dispatched on the box were Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Company 3 (South Morgan Fire), and Company 5 (Hancock, MD Fire). Tanker 2 and Tanker 22 responded. Engine 11 (Berkeley Springs Fire) arrived on scene and advised of a heavily involved barn. Chief 1 established command. Other units on the alarm were Engine 11, Tanker 12 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Rescue Engine 319, (South Morgan Fire), Engine 53 (Hancock Fire).

2 House Alerted For The Mutual Wildland

| On March 21st at 1508 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the mutual assist to Berkeley Springs Fire (Company 1) for the large brush fire endangered a residence in the 300 block of McCoy Road. Also dispatched on the box were Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Company 3 (South Morgan Fire), and Company 5 (Hancock, MD Fire). Brush 26 responded with 2 at 1511 Hrs and Tanker 2 responded with 2 at 1512 Hrs. Engine 11 (Berkeley Springs Fire) arrived on scene and advised of 2 acres of brush involved. Asst chief 1 established command and advised the first in brush unit to proceed past Engine 11 and cut off the fire at the top of the hill.Brush 26 arrived on scene at 1528 Hrs and cut off the right flank on the top. Tanker 2 arrived on scene at 1535 Hrs and was placed in service at 1620 Hrs. Brush 26 cleared the scene at 1630 Hrs. Other units on the alarm were Engine 11, Tanker 12 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Brush 361, Brush 362, Tanker 320 (South Morgan Fire), Special Unit 5 (Hancock Fire).
