ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every GCVFD member that responded to the calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone affected by the incidents.

Company 2 Alerted For The House Fire

On February 28th at 1559 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for box 2-1 a residential structure fire at 5190 Central Ave. Also dispatched on the box were Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Company 32 (Paw Paw Fire), Company 3 (South Morgan Fire), and Company 5 (Hancock, MD Fire). Rescue Engine 2 responded with the chief and 3 at 1602 hrs followed by Tanker 22 with 2 and Subarban 2 with 3. Rescue Engine 2 arrived on scene at 1603 Hrs and advised of a 2 story wood frame structure with nothing showing on side "A" Alpha. Shortly after arriving the homeowner came out to advise the fire was in the basement. Chief 2 established Central Avenue command and an 1 3/4 inch attacl line was deployed to the front door as crews began a search for fire in the residence. Crews came up with negative results on any fire presence and advised of a light smoke condition on the interior of the residence. Chief 2 Central Avenue command placed the box in service with the exception of all Company 2 and Engine 12 (Berkeley Springs Fire). Cause was found to be a furnace malfunction crews removed the smoke from the residence. All units cleared the scene at 1644 Hrs

Company 2 Alerted For The Chimney Fire

On February 26th at 1201 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for a chimney fire at 45 Mann's Way off the 9100 block of Cacapon Road. Shortly after the dispatch chief 2 requested Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire) to assist due to the time of day and being short on manpower. Rescue Engine 2 responded with 3 at 1416 hrs followed by Tanker 22 with 1 and Captain Matt Grimley. Rescue Engine 2 arrived 1423 Hrs and advised of a 2 story structure with smoke showing. Rescue Engine 2's crew advised other incoming units to stage at the bottom of the driveway. The crew of Rescue Engine 2 laddered the roof and checked the interior for extension, The roof crew found extension into the roof around the chimney. Crews removed shingles to extinguish the fire. units cleared at 1541 Hrs

Company 2 Runs The 2 Vehicle MVA

On February 19th at 1201 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the 2 vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Central Avenue and Crawford Lane. Rescue Engine 2 responded with 3 at 1205 Hrs. Chief 2 went enroute directly to the scene. Rescue Engine 2 arrived at 1207 Hrs. 1 patient was transported by Morgan County Company 7. Company 2 units cleared all hazards and returned to servce at 1254 Hrs.

Tanker 22 Alerted For The Working Garage Fire

On February 9th at 2015 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the Tanker assist to Berkeley Springs Company 1 for the Garage fire attached to the residence 5450 Pious Ridge Road. Tanker 22 responded with 2 at 2020 Hrs. While enroute Captain 5 of the Hancock MD Fire Company advised of a working fire. Engine 51 and Engine 52 (Hancock MD Volunteer Fire) arrived shortly after and began an interior attack, Engine 11 arrived moments later assisting the knock down of the fire. Tanker 22 and Tanker 43 (Little Orleans MD Volunteer Fire) arrived on scene at 2050 Hrs. Tanker 22 supplied 2 loads of water and returned to service at 2355 Hrs.

Blizzard Of 2010 Arrives With A Fury

On February 6th beginning at 0430 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for a medical which was canceled by the caller moments later, Then alerted for wires down on Kilgore Road. Brush 26 responded with 2. Due to extremely hazardous road conditions Brush 26 arrived on the scene about an hour later. Crews found the wires on the ground no hazards and returned to service. While returning brush 26 came upon another tree on the power lines in the 15000 block of Cacapon Road. Brush 26 advised dispatch to notify allegheny power of the large tree on the power lines and returned to service again. Once again while returning Company 2 was alerted to assist Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company 1 for a trailer fire. Brush 26 went enroute to the station, upon arriving at the station Chief 2 was working with a tractor plowing trying open the bay doors for equipment to respond at this time units were placed in service by engine 11 Berkeley Springs who was on the scene with a furnace malfunction. Company was able to catch a break for short time they received a telephone call to the station advising that a tree had struck a house in the 5000 block of Cacapon Road, Brush 26 advised dispatch of this call and responded. Brush 26 arrived to found the top of a tree that had broke off and struck the house with no damage to the house. The tree was removed and brush 26 returned to service. A bit later Company 2 was alerted for a public service call. A male subject advised it appeared his trailer roof was ready to cave in. Brush 26 responded to shovel off the roof, while enroute Brush 26 came across another tree in the roadway in the 6000 block of Cacapon Road. The tree was cut and removed from the roadway and brush 26 continued to the public service. Brush 26 then encountered problems on Detour Road with the roadway not plowed and 24 inches of snow on the roadway, Brush 26 was able to continue to find a tree in the roadway on Detour Road. The tree was cut and removed from the roadway but Brush 26 was unable to continue due to hazardous conditions and brush 26 becoming stuck in the snow, DOT assisted in removing 26 from the snow. DOT was unable to continue as well due to the heavy snow. While returning brush 26 came across 2 more trees on powerlines in the 7000 block of Cacapon Road.
