ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every GCVFD member that responded to the calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone affected by the incidents.

Tanker 22 Alerted For The Working Barn Fire

On February 1st at 0222 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the Tanker assist to South Morgan Company 3 on the barn fire in the 500 block of Packing House Road. Tanker 22 responded with 2 at 0225 Hrs. While enroute Chief 3 advised of heavy fire and smoke showing in the area. Tanker 22 arrived on scene at 0254 Hrs and returned to service at 0319 Hrs. Other units on the scene Rescue Engine 3-19, Tanker 3-25, Tanker 3-20, Tanker 3-21 (South Morgan), Tanker 12, Squad 1 (Berkeley Springs), Engine 52 (Hancock Md), Engine 20, (Reynolds Store Va), Wagon 16, Tanker 16 (Gainesboro Va).

Company 2 Alerted For The Single Vehicle MVA

On January 31st at 1354 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the single vehicle accident in the 12000 block of Cacapon Road. Rescue Engine 2 responded with 2 at 1401 Hrs. While enroute dispatch advised Rescue Engine 2 of a single vehicle that was off the roadway in the creek. Assistant Chief 2 went enroute to the scene advising Rescue Engine 2 he had travelled from Youngblood Road to Largent and was unable to locate anything. Shortly after Rescue Engine 2 arrived in the 9500 Block of Cacapon Road and advised all incoming units the MVA was actually going to be east of Youngblood Road. Rescue Engine 2 advised of the roadway being shutdown. Assistant Chief 2 setup command and upon further investigation it was determined that the patient had been ejected with injuries to the back and chest. Morgan County 7-3 Transorted the patient. Units remained on the scene with 9 Members due to the location and icing road conditions. All units cleared at 1521 Hrs.

Company 2 Alerted For The Single Vehicle MVA

On January 18th at 0823 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the single vehicle accident in the 9500 block of Cacapon Road. Rescue Engine 2 responded with 3 and the chief at 0829 Hrs. Captain 2 arrived on scene advising of one vehicle blocking Cacapon Road the occupant had went to nearby residence. Rescue Engine 2 arrived on scene at 0835 Hrs. Rescue Engine 2 blocked the roadway. All units cleared at 0919 Hrs.

2 House Alerted For The Single Vehicle MVA With Rollover

On January 17th at 0020 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the single vehicle accident vehicle on its side unknown injuries just west of Bennett Lane on Cacapon Road. Tanker 22 responded with a crew of 2 from the the firemans banquet in Berkeley Springs at 0021 Hrs, Rescue Engine 2 responded from station 2 with a crew of 3 and the Chef at 0024 Hrs. Tanker 22 arrived on scene at 0026 Hrs advising of one vehicle on its side in the roadway all occupants appear to be out of the vehicle. Captain 2 (M.Grimley) established Cacapon Road command advising Rescue Engine 2 to shut the roadway down before the turn due to icy conditions. Medic 74 received a patient refusal and returned in service. Command advised vehicle has been moved to the side of the roadway placing all units in service when ready. Units on scene: Tanker 22,Rescue Engine 2,Medic 74,Squad 1,Fire Police 2-1.. Command terminated at 00:59 hours.

2 House Station Fill Alerted For The Medical Assist

On January 16th from 1800 Hrs until 2315 Hrs The Needmore Volunteer Fire Company provided an in station transfer while the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company held their Company Banquet. At 2017 Hrs the Great Cacapon Fire Company was dispatched for the medical assist on Orleans Road. Needmore Engine 155 responded from Station 2 with a crew of 6 at 2019 Hrs. They were returned to service at 2052 Hrs. The Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company would like to extend a great deal of thanks to the Needmore Volunteer Fire Company for all they have done including the donation of 4 Inch hose and the Station Fill.
