ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every GCVFD member that responded to the calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone affected by the incidents.

2 House Alerted For The Working Structure Fire

On December 1st at 0906 Hrs the Great Cacapon fire company was dispatched for the assist with Berkeley Springs Fire for smoke in the structure in the 100 Block of Franklin Street. Rescue Engine 2 went enroute with a crew of 3 and the Lieutenant, Tanker 22 with a crew of 2 along with Engine 11 (Berkeley Springs Fire),Engine 53 (Hancock Fire), Tanker 320 (South Morgan Fire), Medic 73, and Medic 74 (Morgan County EMS). Chief 7 responded directly to the scene, upon arriving he notified all units this would be a working fire in the basement. Engine 11 laid a line from the Hydrant to supply thier own water then placed a crosslay in service into the basement. Hancock Engine 53 was the second in engine followed by Rescue Engine 2. Crews from Rescue Engine 2 performed a first floor search as well as vented the structure, The crew from Hancock ENgine 53 took the second floor search. The fire was contained to the basement while there was heat and smoke damage to the rest of the structure.

Company 2 Runs unusual Vehicle Accident

On November 29th at 1650 Hrs the Great Cacapon fire company was dispatched for a traumatic fall on Candlewood Lane. Rescue Engine 2 went enroute with a crew of 5 and the Lieutenant, BLS 2 with a crew of 2 along with Medic 73 (Morgan County EMS) responded as well. Captain 2 responded directly to the scene, upon arriving he notified all units this would be a horse drawn buggy into a tree. After assessing the scene it was determined there was 1 patient with head and facial injuries. Rescue Engine 2 and BLS 2 crews packaged the who was transported by Medic 73.

Company 2 Runs Mutual to Paw Paw

On November 29th at 1237 Hrs the Great Cacapon fire company was dispatched ro assist Paw Paw Fire for a shed fire at 326 Cavalier Trail off the 17,900 block of Cacapon Road. Rescue Engine 2 with 5, Tanker 22 with 2, Tanker 2 with 2 responded at 1240 Hrs, Suburban 2 with 2 responded at 1243 Hrs, Engine 11 (Berkeley Springs Fire), Engine 32, Tanker 32(Paw Paw Fire) all responded. Wile enroute the caller advised he was burning leaves that had spread to a nearby shed which was fully involved and now had quickly spread to a second shed. First arriving units Engine 32 and Tanker 32 found 2 fully involved sheds that were less than 15 feet from the residence with a small brush fire. Engine 53 (Hancock Fire) transferred to Station 2 for the station fill. Crews had the fire under control within minutes

Company 2 Runs Mutual To Berkeley Springs

On November 25th at 1354 Hrs the Great Cacapon fire company was dispatched for a Manpower Assist with Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire) for the electrical odor investigation at 187 Green Street (Morgan Senior Center). Rescue Engine 2 responded and Engine 11 arrived to find nothing evident. All units returned to service at 1414 Hrs.

Another Hunter Down

On November 24th at 1048 Hrs the Great Cacapon fire company was dispatched for a Medic Assist with four wheel drives for a traumatic fall along with Morgan County EMS in the 2000 block of Milo School Road. BLS 2 and medic 7-4 responded and arrived to find yet another hunter down in the woods well off the roadway. BLS 2 staged while the crew of medic 7-4 made their way about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to the patient with the use of ATV'S. Once at the patient it was determined that BLS 2 could make it to the patient. The patient was loaded in BLS 2 to transport the patient back to Medic 74. The patient was transported to the hospital and all units returned to service.

Station 2 Alerted for the Medic Assist

On November 23rd at 1142 Hrs the Great Cacapon fire company was dispatched for a Medic Assist with four wheel drives for the code blue along with the Morgan County EMS and Company 1 (Berkeley Springs Fire) on Cold Run Valley Road. BLS 2 with Lieutenant 2 (Grimley) and a medic responded for the hunter down in the woods well off the roadway. BLS 2 was able to make to within 75 yards of the patient at which time Morgan County EMS used the stokes basket from BLS 2 to transport the patient back to BLS 2 and eventually to Medic 74. The patient was transported to the hospital and all units returned to service.
